Transmission maintenance for your cars
Cars right now are better made than the cars before. Even cars once considered cheap last longer. But even if cars are more durable now problems still happen from time to time. One of the major problems a car can have is by having problems with the transmission. It is not just one of the biggest problems but it can also be one of the most costly.
So here are some things to look for that I have learned running my San Marcos transmission repair company.First thing you should do is to maintain the level of your fluids at a good level or, better yet, fill them up regularly. If you do not do this then there is the possibility of damaging your transmission in no time.So always carry around your dipstick for you to be able to check the fluid levels of your car.See to it that it is always filled at a good level.
Second thing you have to check is if it is already dirty.A transmission fluid that is dirty is a sign of problems that would come. If you find that the fluids are dirty or black then have it checked immediately. I get cars in all the time at my Carlsbad transmission repair shop that have this problem. But by them bringing it in early they avoided more costly repairs.
But if you go ahead and do the maintenance yourself then you should be careful. In changing the fluids of your car be sure that you bought the correct type of fluid for your transmission. It can be surprising but people make mistakes and they sometimes put in a wrong type of fluid. If someone were to do this it could burn up your transmission immediately. So make sure to put the right kind when changing your fluids. I tell all my clients of my San Marcos auto repair shop when in doubt just have professionals do it for you. For such an expensive to replace part of your car it makes sense.
So if you look for these few things you can save your transmission. Doing this only takes a few minutes but can save thousands.

Avoiding transmission problems with used cars
As the down economy affects more people it also affects their buying habits. One big area that has been affected is the area of car buying. In better times people would just go out and buy a new car.Now if they have a need for another car they are going to have to settle for used. That isn't so horrible since if you do it right you can get a lot of value with a used car.But if you don't do it right it could end up costing you a lot of money.
One areas that is easily done wrong is the transmission.Even though they make transmissions more reliable they still can be expensive.Said in a different manner you can break them easy but you can't fix them easy without spending a lot of money. That is a bad combination and I have seen many of my clients suffer from this in my San Marcos transmission repair company. They go and purchase that used car but they end spending a lot more money.
One thing that is easily checked is the car's history. You will want to ask the seller to provide any records of service. That will show you if it was possibly a rental. Or you can see if it was in an accident. So what you want to see is if they have had transmission issues. That is one thing I have all my clients of my Carlsbad transmission repair shop to do is check the vehicle’s records.
Something else you can check is going over the transmission fluid levels. All you have to do is start the car and let it idle. They you just check the fluid with a dipstick into the transmission fluid. If the fluid is low this is a good sign that it might be leaking. If you find that the fluid is very dirty or even black, don't even think about buying that car.It is an indicator of problems with the transmission. The last thing you want to do is buy a used car then end up having to bring it into my San Marcos auto repair shop to fix the transmission.Perform these steps and you will save a lot of money.
