An Introduction To Astrology
What’s your astrological sign. Everyone knows what his or her sign is. Even if you”re not a believer that the position of the planets at the exact time of your birth is an indicator of your personality and can determine events that happen to your throughout your lifetime, you’ve certainly met someone who does believe. At the very least, it’s harmless club conversation, a way to get to know someone. But is there something to it. Are horoscope dates just hocus pocus? Or do they truly predict the course of events in your life?
Astrology is one of the earliest sciences known to human history. There are astrological records that originated in Babylon in 1645 BCE. Other cultures, such as Egyptian and Greek developed timekeeping and calendar methodologies. From the time man began to observe and track the world around him, he’s also contemplated his own relationship to the earth, stars, planets and elements around him. Astrology may have one way that earliest civilizations helped define their place in the cosmos. They perceived it as being greater than themselves; not something to be conquered, but to be understood.
While in modern times astrology is seen as new age and not as credible as sciences like astrophysics or chemistry, at one time it was as credible a science as any other. Astronomers like Galileo and Copernicus were also practising astrologers. With the evolution of more quantitative sciences, astrology’s influence and position began to diminish. It enjoyed a resurgence in the 1930’s with the birth of England’s Princess Margaret. The London Sunday-Express ran her astrological profile, and that event was the origin of the modern daily horoscope in the newspapers.

Venus In Cancer - Connecting To The Divine Mother
Venus is in Cancer now, and has been for a week or so. When Venus is in Cancer it brings together these two feminine influences. In general, this is favorable for our romantic relationships. At least both of these energies are accommodating and willing to please. Compromising and yielding to wishes of others is a big part of why relationships work. However (isn’t there always a “however”), the nature of Venus compromise and Moon (the ruler of Cancer) compromise is important.
The moon is the energy in life related to motherhood and the selfless love a mother has for child. The selfless love of the mother is necessary for the child to grow, especially when a child is a baby. The helpless baby needs help of the mother to change the diaper, keep feeding them and providing for them even though the baby spits up, screams and cries, and does many other aggravating things. In spite of such unpleasantness, there is really no option in the mind of the mother. Sacrificing her time, effort, money and everything else, she takes care of the child.
Venus on the other hand is the energy that negotiates and handles adult relationships. Not just romantic relationships but all adult relationships are related to Venus. But it is the romantic relationship that raises the stakes to its highest level and reveals the deepest nature of Venus. Ultimately Venus is related to wanting happiness. We seek happiness for ourselves when we are young. We want to experience pleasure through the body and senses. Once we love another person though, we want to give them pleasure and happiness as much or more than we want to get it for ourselves. So we learn to yield our own desire for pleasure. Doing this teaches us that the universe doesn’t revolve around us and our happiness. This realization compels us toward a higher nature of Venus, which is to find personal happiness in something eternal and universal.
So, back to Venus in Cancer. Even though there is a great capacity and desire to love your partner now and a feeling of identities merging, you must be careful with codependency, disappointment and sliding on those “nonnegotiable” issues. For many reasons, we cannot treat our romantic partner like our child. The reason is because adult, romantic relationships are not selfless, they are conditional. I know this flies in the face of a lot of modern, new age ideas that say we should “love everyone selflessly” - but it’s simply not the case.
Romantic relationships are based on equality, mutual respect and accountability. If one person tries to selflessly love the other, obviously it’ will feel abusive to one and smothering to the other. Imagine that scenario taken to its extreme. Imagine you let your partner live with you, you pay all the bills, you feed them, you drive them around, you basically take care of them like you take care of a child. How would that feel to you? Not good. Yet if that person was our child, we wouldn’t mind. That is exactly we want to do. We must hold adults accountable as adults.
To explain the point, also consider the opposite. Let’s say rather than having compassion and sympathy for the three year-old, we hold them to the same standards of emotional maturity that we hold an adult. The three-year-old throws a temper tantrum because they’re jealous of their little sister and starts throwing things. So we say to them “that’s all, get out of the house and don’t ever come back here until you get that under control”. It would be inappropriate because the three-year old does not have the emotional maturity to understand complex emotions like anger and jealousy. The forgiveness and compassion of parents teach them.
But if we tolerate jealous, ranting rampages from another adult (with adult forms of power and cunning) - because we “Love them selflessly”, we are just asking for trouble, and the trouble may even be deadly. A very high percentage of people who are murdered are murdered by their lovers.
Women especially must be careful with this desire to selflessly love their partners. There can be great confusion around this issue since women have a natural tendency to want to love selflessly. Venus in Cancer is especially susceptible to blurring of the maternal relationship and the romantic relationship. Especially if women have not had children, this can happen. I will say that many, if not most, of my female clients still have this “selfless love” idea and try to hold their romantic relationships to this “new age” standard.
So let me say here and now, all the women who are reading this, it is okay NOT to love your partner selflessly. It is a conditional love. This is suitable. Selfless love flows easily when a deep trust is established after a long time. But even if you think you got selfless love down - you watch and see - one person starts to violate the relationship agreement - and there will be arguing.
Astrologically, the relationship house is the seventh house. It is a secondary career house (and a very important career influence). It is transactional, like a contract where two people have to play fair.
If you want to love something selflessly, get a dog or a cat. I’m serious by the way. Just look how we treat our pets, that is selfless love. We serve the animal without regret or expectation. Every human has the need to give love which is just as strong (or perhaps even stronger) than the need to receive love.
Venus will be in Cancer until September 14. So, enjoy that soft and sweet Venus love. It is quite powerful in Cancer. Be careful of the unrealistic longings, the disappointment in not “merging” and the codependency potential. The beautiful part of Venus in Cancer is the spiritual potential. Like me, someone who is not really that interested in a relationship now, can really feel the devotion to God, love, beauty now. when Venus is in water signs, the love of teachings and life itself can be profound - Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio. As with everything in life, every astrological placement and indicator is divine. Ownership is the only real problem. We generally try to possess something that is not ours.
Everything is on loan - Even your body.
You own nothing. It all belongs to the mother.

Astrology of the Iranian Conflict
Currently there is unrest in Iran. The conservative Ahmedinajad, backed by the ruling clerical elite, claim a legitimate election and detractors claiming voter fraud. This has been a catalyst for civil unrest that is becoming more and more out of control and even some of the Mullahs (agents of the clerical oligarchy) are now marching with protesters.
Of course astrology will show this clearly, so let’s see what is going on.
There are three main things happening here:
1. Saturn return to the February 1, 1979 Iran Chart (The current Islamic Republic of Iran started on February 1, 1979)
2. Jupiter retrograde w / Neptune in Aquarius. Jupiter is the planet of philosophies and religion, Aquarius is the sign of social reform and seeing to the dignity of all - the common man. Aquarius is most related to Democracy of all the zodiac signs.
3. Mars/Venus conjunction in Aries, a sign of courageously defending our principles with passion and enthiusiasm. In Vedic Astrology Aries is the sign of the warrior, the fighter - whereas Sagittarius and Leo (the other fire signs) are the sign of the Sattwic warrior (bringing nobility to the cause). There is no Tamasic warrior.
First of all a few dates that are important.
June 12, 2009 is an important date as it was the Iranian election day.
June 15, the first day of violent protests and civilian deaths, is also important.
On June 12 the Moon entered sidereal Capricorn, joined the Sun, Mercury and exalted Mars in the February 12, 1979 Iranian Chart. It is my feeling that a Capricorn ascendant is the most accurate for the Iranian Chart - making this Moon on election day as being in the first house.
*note:
This time makes a Capricorn ascendant - w/ Sun, Mercury, Mars in the first house - Saturn in the 8th house with Rahu - Moon in Pisces in an exchange with exalted Jupiter. Venus the 5th and 10th house ruler, in the 12th house of letting go. This chart describes a militant, closed, fear based and conservative regime - and one propped up by imposing religious idealogy (Jupiter, 3rd and 12th lord exchanging with Moon, 5th lord). The government even has gone so far as to issue state sanctioned killings of writers, supporting terrorism and “jihaad” and advocating wiping Israel off the map.
I am now using this rising sign as the Iran Chart, (7AM) not the time of 9:30 AM that I have seen posted before.
The moon would have transited over all three planets in the ascendant on election day - The Sun, 8th house ruler - Mercury, 6th and 9th house ruler and Mars, 4th and 11th house ruler. Additionally, Rahu has been in the Iranian first house since May 2008, showing the potential for political fracture and reinvention (also nuclear energy).
On February 15 Jupiter turned retrograde, with the Moon having just transited over the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction the day before - this transit happening in egalitarian Aquarius. Jupiter retrograde in exact conjunction with Neptune is very powerful as Jupiter turns retrograde for close to five months on this day - he had been stationed for several weeks - moving very slowly. Jupiter shows our philosophies and the retrograde motion shows things backing up, being reflected upon and internalized.
The influence of Neptune brings a desire to dissolve boundaries and illusion and connect to something higher and more worthy. In truth, I have a problem with the standard interpretation of Neptune as a higher octave of Venus and see it much more related to Jupiter - as after all - Jupiter is the co-ruler of Pisces (Neptune’s supposed sign) NOT Venus.
Jupiter is the planet of abstraction and philosophy, just like Neptune - Venus is very worldly,… but we’ll leave that debate for another time.
So, if we have all of this mystical dreamy desire to dissolve boundaries then why the violence and authoritative backlash. Well, where there is violence there is Mars - Where there is authoritative response there is Saturn.
By transit Venus began to close on Mars, eventually surpassing him in the sky. When this crisis began Mars was in front of Venus - and now she is past him, at a higher degree. This crisis has unfolded amidst a new Venus/Mars cycle. Venus and Mars made this same conjunction in Sidereal Aries in 1979. At that time Iranian women took to the streets to protest the edicts passed down by the Ayatollah and women’s rights protests broke out all over the middle east and Japan that year and the Mars/Venus cycle perfected in Aries.
Make a note that a Mars/Venus conjunction in Aries will show issues related to women’s rights.
In particular on June 19, Venus, Mars and the Moon joined at exactly 19 of Sidereal Aries. Venus and Mars danced around the exact same degree until now (June 23). On Saturday June 20 a young Iranian woman, Neda, was slain in the streets and has now become a martyr for larger social causes.
The Mars/Venus conjunction in Aries ( a masculine warrior sign and said) has shown the danger to women (Venus) and also the potential to empower them after tragedy.
Since then there has been a rise in stature and notoriety of Iranian women in this struggle, long oppressed and marginalized - they are becoming the heroines. I see this aspect of the conflict will take on new life. A global rallying cry for Arab women and greater tolerance will follow. This unrest over the election is shaking the foundation of Iranian fundamentalism. This is shown by the Saturn return happening in the February 12, 1979 Iran Chart.
At the inception of the Islamic Republic of Iran Saturn and Rahu were in Leo, the same position of transiting Saturn in the sky now. This shift is interesting when viewed in relation to the recent US election and the rise of the Democratic party. The US election of 1980 ushered in the era of Reagan and his republican agenda, which is now all but dead. The fortunes of Ronald Reagan were closely tied to the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979. The Iranian crisis was the most obvious example of Jimmy Carter’s failure of leadership.
The Iranians released the hostages the day Ronald Reagan was sworn in as president.

Cancer / Capricorn Issues Will Dominate the Next 6 Months - Solar Eclipse of July 21 -
Todays solar eclipse is the longest of this century.
It exists along the Cancer/Capricorn axis. This axis is of practical, rational means and measures, which give structure and boundaries (Capricorn) - opposed by irrational sensitivity and selfless love which dissolves boundaries (Cancer). Like all astrological phenomena, this axis is rich in many ways.
Cancer is ruled by the Moon, the part of us that just wants to feel good, and unless we feel good we cannot do any good. The moon is the archetype of feminine energy, the capacity and power to receive and the connections we form based on what we receive. The the Moon is like an opening that takes things in and tries to integrate them into our consciousness. We suffer in life because we are not flowing with our true nature. That sense of separateness hurts. The moon is the part that senses we are one and wants to dissolve boundaries that separate us from each other and from our higher Self.
The Moon is the opening through which life enters us. It exists between the limitations of form through our worldly experience and body (ascendant) and the universal, infinite Self (the Sun). The Moon is the part of us that tries to somehow bridge these two completely opposite planes of existence - the limited body and experiences and the universal Self. Our feelings keep us sensitive to what we are doing, trying to connect to things that take us closer to the Self, and bring about growth.
In the highest sense we feel the Moon as the innocent perceptive awareness in the moment. We are all trying to be open to everything - we want to receive everything, without fear or judgment. but it is hard. Life hurts us through the limitations of ego. We feel that hurt through the Moon. We remember other hurts and want to avoid future pain, so the ego builds protective structures (Saturn) and defends this fortress (Mars) and a separate identity forms around these habits - likes and dislikes - histories, etc. The moon is what makes us feel connected through a separate identity. Trying to dissolve it also comes from the Moon.
As for this eclipse,.. The Sun is being eclipsed by the South node in Cancer. The Sun is where we express a certain innate power and confidence. Southv Node is where we have a paradigm of experience that we trust, often blindly. This trust creates blind spots in us. Cancer is where we are trying to dissolve boundaries, and simply “trust our feelings” (and may act upon that) no matter what.
A need to dig deeper into the certainty of "trusting your feelings" and "following your heart" is a large theme in this eclipse. We tend to rationalize everything we do based on our feelings, no matter how impractical or nonsensical the thing may be. We often call that “intuition”, but much of the time it is not intuition, it is the emotions. Intuition is something deep and silent and not thought about or pondered. It is a deep knowing, without doubt or need for explanation. The emotions are generated based on our preferences, worries, fears and other things.
Look deeply into the nature of how you may base life decisions on how you feel at the exclusion of all other things, especially if there is the hope of connection to people you like, etc. - rather than doing what is actually best for you.
For example, in our career. If we base decisions mainly on how we feel in the moment or about a person, etc. We will not get very far. feeling good about what we are doing is not the most important thing in life. Much of the time we are not going to feel good. But once we accept this we are actually able to feel good in most situations because the longing to be happy (rather than accept what is) dies down.
As was said, Cancer exists opposite Capricorn, the sign where we want to do what is best in the long term, regardless of how we feel about it in the moment. It is rational and calculating.

Vedic Love Horoscopes are Accurate and Real
Relationships are one of the most important areas of life. Love Horoscopes are often shunned in this modern world due to the degradaton of astrology. But not so fast.
The relationship of masculine and feminine energy happens both internally as well as externally. The external relationship with our partner mirrors the internal relationship we have with these forces within ourself. Vedic relationship astrology is a remarkable blend science, commonsense ideas and holistic wisdom. Improving our external relationship, we improve our internal awareness and vice versa. Vedic astrology is deeply connected to the other Vedic sciences of yoga, ayurveda.
Both Western astrology and Vedic astrology uses the same planets, signs and houses. Yet, there are a few major differences between Western and Vedic astrology which reveal why Vedic Relationship astrology is so amazingly accurate.
Whereas Western astrology places importance on the Sun, Vedic astrology places more importance on the Moon. Vedic astrology uses 27 distant stars (called “Nakshatras”) in the horoscope.
The Sun refers to our individual nature, not our desire to partner. Thus relationship compatibility must revolve around the moon, the planet of nurturing, vulnerability and receptivity. Vedic relationship astrology focuses mainly on the moons of the couple. Assessing the moons will reveal the flow of emotional energy and the quality of love flowing in the partnership. The moon is the planet of trust and comfort. It is related to our childhood, that time in life we are we were vulnerable. Based on this vulnerability we developed strengths, insecurities and complexes based on receiving things that felt good or bad. * Element and style (fiery, watery or airy)

All of these criteria are actually applied to every planet in the chart adding a 10 fold strength just to the surface of Vedic Astrological compatibility. Through this subtlety it is possible to examine each planet.
In relationships the Planets show:
Sun - Our independence in the relationship
Moon - Our abolity to feel relaxed, open and comfortable with another
Mars - Our strong ideas of how things should or shouldn’t be in the relationship
Mercury - Our capacity to communicate and be flexible
Jupiter - Our common philosophies and principles, like values and religion
Venus - Our desire to experience pleasure with the partner and how we behave once the partner stops fulfilling us.
Saturn - Our need to feel safe, have proper boundaries and put in the necessary effort with the partner.
This system shows the subtleties in all human interactions, not just romantic relationships.
