The Wedding Cake

Nearly every social event offers food in the celebration, birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings, are but a few of the events where food is an important part of the celebration. This article is about the wedding cake. A wedding is a way to celebrate the union of two people who are starting a life together. People come to eat and drink and a great deal of work is put into the preparation for this day. The wedding cake is often the focal point of the event. There are times that it is considered bad luck not to have a piece of the wedding cake. There are specified rules for cutting the wedding cake that are a part of tradition. For instance, at a wedding reception, it is traditional to cut the wedding cake just before dessert is served, if the wedding reception takes place during lunch or the dinner hour. However, if the reception is held during tea or cocktails, the cake is cut just after all of the guests arrive. It is tradition for the bride and groom to cut and eat the first slice together, as a symbol of their choice to be together. The rest of the cake is sliced by the maid of honor or a family member.

Choosing a wedding cake is quite a task. Tradition calls for a white cake with white frosting for weddings. In this day and age, couples are choosing their favorite flavor. This has bakeries and cake decorators striving to offer a larger selection of cakes. Chocolate, fruit, yellow, pound, and marble are some of the cakes made for modern weddings. Some wedding cakes offer a different flavor for each layer. White icing, while still ordered, has made way for a wider selection of frostings. Chocolate, mocha, lemon, and any other flavor you can imagine are used for wedding cake decorating. It is possible to customize your cake using all of your favorite flavors. How the wedding cake is decorated is a personal choice as well. You can have just about anything you can dream up put on a wedding cake including, fruit and even real edible flowers.

The wedding reception is the most anticipated part of the wedding. And everyone looks forward to seeing the cake cut and sharing it with the bride and groom as a symbol of good will and a hope, that as a couple, the bride and groom will be prosperous and fertile. If you would like to become a cake decorator, there are several ways you can go about it. There are hundreds of books out there that will teach you how to decorate cakes, from the simple to the ornate. Another way to learn cake decorating, is to purchase one of the many videos or DVD’s that will take you, step-by-step , through the cake decorating process. The best way to learn cake decorating is to take a class. While DVD’s, videos, and books are highly popular and informative, taking a class will help you move along faster. You will be able to get immediate feedback from the teacher, and they can see where you might be going wrong and correct you before the project is ruined.

Starting On The Thought Of Collecting

If you want to build your art collection, you should do so in an intelligent manner. This is so that everything you buy for your collection wouldn’t be considered as a waste of money. However, collecting art intelligibly would require you to master two things. First, is to have good research skills, and second the skill of collecting.

Starting On The Thought Of Collecting

Generally, as most people do, you’d probably have the knowledge of buying art on a piece-per-piece basis, yet still may not be thinking of plans like making multiple achievements as time passes by, or simply, building up a collection.Although it is possible to find artworks that youlike anywhere you go, and get to choose from an outstanding diversity of subject matters, mediums, and price ranges; doing so can still be confusing and intimidating, especially if you’re still starting. Questions such as: “How exactly do you push your way through and choose which direction to make an entrance?” “How can you relate one buy to the other?”; “How should you group or organize your art?”; “Are there ways of presenting it?”; and lastly “How can you do everything in an excellent manner?”; may come play in your mind. However, once you get these queries off you head then you’ll get to understand the real meaning of “collection”, which is the crucial case of controlled and purposeful buying.

The Great Collections

Great collectors are extensively respected and usually as popular as the artworks they collect; such as the Rockefeller collection, the Chrysler collection, and the Phillips collection, to name a few. Such collectors are famous since they demonstrate a great deal of talent when choosing and organizing their art, just like the artists themselves are in making the masterpiece. Similarly, each piece of art in one great collection orders first-class attention as well as a first-rate price not just because the piece is good, but also of the name of the company it bears.

How Great Is ‘Great’?

So how exactly do great collectors become great? Well, experts believe that it is this skill of being able to categorize specific artworks from the billions of works existing and assemble them in such a manner aiming to advance or increase other’s understanding of such particular art or of art’s evolution in general. For any kind of mature collection, the whole thing, as a group, becomes greater than the value of the parts. Thus, the collector becomes accepted to be a respected authority in the matter and in outstanding cases continues until he’s the one that sets the standards, establishes the trends, and influences the future of art collecting for all. This is how meaningful and influencing great art collections can be. It all starts from a single piece of art, until the whole collection itself becomes a separate artwork from its components.

The First Step To Greatness

No matter how you see your collecting, whether recreational or serious, there are methods that you could use to get the most out of not only the value and quality of your art, but also your personal appreciation, enjoyment, and understanding of your art. Thus, you should know that your first step to greatness is being real to your tastes. If you want to be a really great collector someday, then acknowledging and accepting that you like specific types of art without considering what other people say or what is popular in the market, would be the right thing to do.Remember, in collecting, you’re making an artwork too which is composed of different specific pieces. How you’ll design your artwork is entirely up to you and not what other people think. So if you’ll be collecting, be sure to put your heart on it!

Food In Baskets, Bottles & Boxes

Gifts of food, whether home made or store bought are always appreciated.  You can buy decorative boxes, all sizes and shapes of baskets, or use bottles ranging from empty liquor bottles to the standard Mason jar.   Visit your local resale shops or check on-line auction sites for great deals on baskets, bottles and boxes. For those of you who love to bake, whipping up a couple dozen of five or six different types of cookies and boxing them with a pretty bow make a delicious holiday gift for friends, family or even your child’s teacher.  Kick the gift up a notch by adding some homemade candies. Need a gift for people who love being outdoors, pick up a nice inexpensive picnic basket and add a bottle of wine, some cheeses and crackers with a small cheese cutting board and a couple of pretty wine glasses for a classic gift.  They’ll remember you for years to come each time they use it. Empty liquor bottles that have been cleaned are perfect for making a gift of flavored oils.  Drop any combination of things like herbs, garlic, and hot peppers into the bottle; add oil and cap it with a cork or a pourer.  A pretty bow around the bottle is all the gift-wrap you need.   Most kitchen stores sell bottles of different shapes and sizes filled with all sorts of things, beans, peppers, herbs, pastas and oil that are strictly decorative for tables or countertops.  You can quite easily make your own.  A pretty gift bottle filled with colorful food items will add a decorative touch to their tables long after the holidays.

Has a friend or family member ever told you how much they love a particular recipe of yours?   Find a nice basket, fill it with all the ingredients necessary to make the recipe, type the recipe out on a recipe card (they come plain and decorated), you can even find wire flower or butterfly shaped standing recipe card holders that you can add.  Or you can add candles and holders to use for a romantic dinner.  You can layer mason jars with the dry ingredients for a favorite soup (the beans, rice, pasta, seasonings etc) everything except the meat and the water.  Again, you type up the cooking instructions, tie the jar with a bow and you’re ready to go.  A small square of gingham cloth placed on the jar opening before closing the lid adds a pretty touchFor an even more personal touch (makes a wonderful anniversary gift for a couple you care about) you can use your computer to make a gift certificate (or you can make it by hand) entitling the recipient of your gift to a meal cooked, served and cleaned up after, in their own home.  You go to their house with everything you need, cook the meal, serve it, clean up after yourself and leave while they enjoy a relaxing romantic dinner (or for someone you know well breakfast in bed served on trays complete with a rose in a bud vase and the morning paper). If you don’t care for the do it yourself approach, there are websites where for around $100 you can have the fixings for a romantic steak and lobster dinner for two delivered and that includes the pot!  Everyone loves gifts of food.

Who Are The Most In Demand Celebrities In The UK?

Everyone loves to read about , and it seems like this year UK have been more talked about than ever. So, who are some of the most written about famous people in the UK this year? Well, one of them has got to be Cheryl Cole. Shes one of the most recognizable around right now and the media seem to follow her wherever she goes. Lately, she has been caught up in the whole X Factor drama and that has certainly set tongues wagging and pens scribbling.

Also widely talked about in all sections of the media right now are Kate and Pippa Middleton or to give Kate her proper form of address, the Duchess of Cambridge. The sisters have been hugely popular for a while but things really took off when Kate married Prince William (see below) on 29th April. Now it seems like both of them are in the papers all the time and, while you might expect most of the attention to be on Kate, its actually Pippa getting a lot of the coverage.

As always, the world of sport can also be relied upon for some juicy gossip and, continuing a trend that has been going on for the past couple of years, Wayne Rooney has to make the list of the most written about people of 2011. Most recently, he has been causing controversy over his decision to have a hair transplant because he was (reportedly) fed up with his football team mates teasing him about his hairline. Barely a day goes by without a report of his latest antics.

This year, Simon Cowell TVs resident Mr. Nasty has also been getting people talking and filling the gossip columns with ink. He has long been a regular in the British media but he seems to have reached new heights in 2011. First there was the will-he/wont-he over whether or not hed be judging this years UK X Factor. Then more recently, hes been causing controversy for inviting the aforementioned Cheryl Cole onto the US X Factor before she got ditched only weeks later.

Lastly, we come to Prince William. Hes always been written about widely because hes a future monarch and high-profile member of the royal family but arguably it was his marriage to Catherine (Kate) live on TV that catapulted him to new heights. As a search and rescue helicopter pilot for the RAF he also makes a lot of headlines and his work for the royal family is also heavily reported on. This attention seems set to stay with the prince for many years to come.

No Instruction

With the popularity of beading and jewelry making today, there are literally millions of different beads which you can purchase and add on to your crochet projects.  Beads are very readily available and inexpensive to purchase.  They can be found made of many materials and of all shapes and sizes.  Whether you want to add a single focus bead to your crochet projects, or add many of them, it is simple to do and will produce great results every single time. No instruction about beading crochet would be complete without a warning about babies.  If you are crocheting baby items, they are not appropriate for beading.  The baby’s hands can work beads loose and they are a possible choking hazard if swallowed.  The best way to deal with this is to avoid the issue all together by not adding beads to your baby crochet items.

No matter if your crochet project is simple or complex, adding beads is a simple process which you can learn very quickly.  However, one very important thing is to remember is that your bead holes need to fit over the yarn or fiber which you are crocheting with.  If the bead hole is hard to get on your yarn then you will find the entire process frustrating.  And, the bead, if hard to string, will rub your yarn and cause it to fray.  This fraying will cause your finished product to look less than professional.  The first step in adding beads to your crochet projects is deciding how many beads you need and where you will place them on your project.  Your options are limitless when you are adding beads to crochet.  You can add one bead, you can add just a few beads or you can add many beads.  You also have the option of forming patterns with your beads or making them appear more random.  Once you have decided some of these things then it is time to hit the craft store to purchase your beads.

While you are selecting beads, take care to decide on the quality of the beads and the wear they may receive.  If your item will be machine washed then it is a good idea to stick with sturdy beads.  If your item will be hand washed then you can use more delicate beads.  Whatever your choice in beads, make sure you use quality beads so they will last the lifetime of your finished crochet project.  You will be placing your beads on your project in the reverse, so you will want to line up your beads in reverse order, if they are not all the same.  When you are going to embellish your crochet with beads you have two choices of how to do it.  The first choice is to add your beads as you crochet.  To do this you will want to feed your beads onto your crochet hook when you are at the stitch where you want the bead to be.  Place the bead right where you want it to be, and then make your last yarn over.  This will secure down the bead into place.  If you are working on an open or lacy design, you will need to add your beads as you crochet.

The second choice you have is to sew on your beads after your fabric has been crocheted.  To do this, you will want to use the same crochet yarn or thread to sew on your beads that your fabric is made of.  This will allow the thread to blend in and not stand out on your finished design.  This is a good technique for tightly woven crochet fabrics.  Adding beads to your crochet projects gives you a way to make a simple item really have some sparkle and visual interest.  Whether you choose to add a single bead or thousands, the process is simple and you can do it well with very little practice.
