You must already have heard of Harry Potter series of books. I will be in shcok if you did not. Author J.K. Rowling has written six books so far, and intends to end the book series with the seventh title, which is already out. Each of the first six books has been a great success, and four of the six have already been turned into equally successful movie. There have been talks of more movies on this.
Although the Harry Potter books and Harry Potter games are marketed as children’s or young adult books, they have also appealed to readers of all ages. The basic theme of the books is good versus evil, which is something that is understood and appreciate by many. In addition, Harry Potter and his good friends are often called upon to face their fears and also to show courage and bravery in challenging times. These are admirable qualities that appeal to people, so the books is able to quickly touched the hearts of millions of fans. Each book in the Rowling’s series focuses on a separate school year, implying that Harry Potter and his friends are sixteen years old now. As the main characters have gotten older, Rowling has made the plot even more darker and scarier.
The Harry Potter books have been credited with making reading a fun and cool hooby again. In fact, the release of a new Harry Potter title is met with great media publicity. Bookstores around the world host midnight parties for fans who want to be among the very first to buy the new offering. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite Harry Potter characters, and in turn the stores supply the decorations, music, and sometimes even refreshments. In an age where young people would much rather surf the Internet or play video games than read, this kind of hoopla surrounding a book release is noteworthy indeed. Fantasy Becomes Reality When Anime And Cosplay Meet!
Born from large gatherings and events full of fanatical anime fans, Cosplay Costume has become an international hobby with thousands of followers. As Anime has grown in popularity in the past two decades so has the hobby of cosplay. Cosplay is derived from the English words ‘costume’ and ‘play’ and is used to describe the hobby of crafting highly detailed and accurate costumes of beloved anime and manga characters.
In areas such as the Akihabara district in Japan, cosplay has become an extremely popular and commonly exhibited pastime. In public settings such as parties, nightclubs and video games show, cosplay is a common sight. Some areas have even begun to see the emergence of cosplay cafes and venues that cater exclusively to costly.
Many Manga events hold contests where the accuracy and attention to detail on a cosplay costume are judged based on their true depiction of the character they were designed after. This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of cosplay. The attention to detail and accuracy of a cosplay costume is the defining element of it. In this way, a players hair and skin are considered part of the costume itself and should resemble that of the character they are depicting.
Very much different than Halloween costumes, the goal of a cosplay costume is to literally become the character that is being depicted. For this reason cosplay costumes tend to be extremely elaborate and even simple costumes may take months of research and crafting to make properly. Many costume makers will employ many doctrines of craftsmanship to get the proper texture, look and feel of the specific character they want to cosplay as.
Cosplay trends change on a monthly and yearly basis as pop culture and anime changes. Due to the international success of some major film franchise in the past years some fantasy and sci-fi characters have become very popular cosplay figures. Characters from Star Wars and the Harry Potter series are among some of the most popular non-anime characters to see featured as Popular Cosplay.
Within the hobby of cosplay there are even some subgroups. Crossplay is one subset of cosplay in which the player dresses as a character of the opposite sex. Crossplay does not necessarily mean cross-dressing however as many anime characters wear clothing that is not necessarily gender-specific.
Cosplay has grown so much in popularity that in its modern incarnation, Cosplay Characters has magazines and websites devoted to it. These resources feature detailed instructions on costume making and materials as well as images of costumes from past conventions. Conventions routinely allow ‘cameko’ or ‘camera boy’ photographers who dedicate themselves to photographing cosplay events.
Anime does not appear to be losing steam anytime soon and along with it; cosplay is only becoming more popular. The dedicated Manga fans and enthusiasts of people continue to support Cosplay and pave the way for future craftsman to expand this unique hobby. Expressing the highest level of multi-discipline art and culture, cosplay is an intriguing and fun way for anime fans to truly express themselves.
