How To Improve Your Digital Photographs

Whether you consider yourself a non-professional or want to be a better videographer, or you just want to create better family photographs, there are many things you can do to get better pictures. These are some easy tips to make use of the next time you head out with your digicam.

Even a beginner can take professional-looking photos - acceptable for framing.

Be Prepared

Keep all your photography apparatus prepared to be used. Collect everything you will need into one place. A camera bag is good, as it keeps all your stuff together and permits you to carry it all with you. Everything in its place. A good camera bag will let you arrange a miniature tripod, additional batteries, memory cards, etc. - even a plastic carrier bag or water resistant housing to protect your camera in wet weather.

Hold your Camera Steady

Hazy pictures are nearly always the results of camera movement. Just your own unsteadiness, causes your camera to shake enough to obscure your photos.

So steady yourself and your camera before you take the shot.

Plant your feet firmly on the ground and tuck your elbows in close to your sides. In place of utilising the LCD spectator, steady your camera against your forehead and frame the shot using your camera’s viewfinder. You can also steady your chest and shoulders by leaning against a wall or a tree. Or completely eliminate any camera movement by utilizing a tripod.

Once you're all set, gradually press the shutter release in one motion. Pressing the shutter release too hard could jerk the camera downward.

Get Closer

One difference in “snapshots” and great pictures is the composition of the shot. Unless you're shooting an out of doors landscape, you can improve most photos simply by getting nearer to your subject. Depending on the situation, you can physically move nearer to your subject, or use the zoom feature on your camera for a similar effect. Try and get within a few feet of your subject so you eliminate almost all of the background. You will like the result.

Take more Photos

Even professionals take tons of shots of the same subject - to get just one or two that they'll use. With a digital camera, you can remove the pictures you loathe, and only print the winners - so don’t hesitate to take one or two shots of the same subject. Change the angle of the shot. Get a little closer. Adjust the lighting.

Why not fill the entire memory card with pictures of your kid at the pool, or your girl in her cap and robe? The more photos you take, the better the percentages that you'll get one or two shots that may actually thrill you.
