The Use Of Majestic Color Purple When Painting Fine Art
Red, yellow and blue are the three primary colors there are also secondary colors and these are orange, green and purple. The color that is complementary with purple or violet appears opposite it on the color wheel that artist’s use and this is the color yellow. Think about Easter and you will know how well purple and yellow go together.
Secondary colors are made up of two primary colors and in the case of purple the colors used are blue and red. Depending on how much red and how much blue are mixed together you will get different shades and types of purple. More red added is obviously a reddish purple and more blue added is bluish purple.
The psychology and spirituality of violet and purple colors:
When the color purple in any form appears in paintings the feelings it evokes will vary. If the purple is on the blue side it is cooler and presents a feeling of being staunch or old fashioned. Deep purple has always been considered regal or luxurious especially when it is on the reddish side of purple. So a blue purple is colder than a red purple.
When purple is a gentler violet it is considerably more feminine and gentle and for this reason all purples are seen as feminine. Contrarily to this, men who were considered royal or upper class always wore purple. In fact in ancient times only men who were emperors or kings wore purple as they were the only ones who could afford the materials made with the purple dye. Purple is used to represent a wide variety of things in the world today, not only is the color associated with gay pride but there is also the purple heart which is a bravery award issued to soldiers and other military heroes. Man and his spirituality are thought to be known by the purple or violet color.

Purple colored paint is made from many different compounds and even though it is made from mostly Cobalt, Quinacridone and Ultramarine it is also made from Manganese and Dioxazine. Mixing your own purple or violet is a matter of experimenting with different types of blues and reds until you find the value you desire.
Forming the color purple:
To get your desired color the procedure to mix colors has always been to do a small mixture first and then gradually build by adding more color. Some artists keep a log of the colors they use and the amounts while creating their color combinations so they can easily reproduce the color in larger quantities for their paintings.
To make different shades of purple its complimentary color yellow can be added to it. By adjusting a little purple to a lot of yellow you can alter the type of violet colors you get and violet is a triad color.
