Most Requested Tattoo Designs
Tattoos are done in all sorts of designs. The reasons behind getting tattoos may be varied, the design choice is varied too, but there are a few that stand out. A lot of tattoo artists rank these are their most requested designs. Here, in no particular classification, are some of the most requested designs in the tattoo world. As a side note, my favorite tattoo book is Chooper Tattoo.
Tribal - In recent history, this has grown to be one of the most requested designs. Indigenous tribal tattoo styles have inspired the new reincarnation of this art form. Tattoo artist also admit that Maori-inspired tribal ink are the most admired. I have found a few good Maori designs in Tattoo Fever Ultimate Tattoo Design recently too.
Kanji - These are tattoos done in Chinese typeset. Often, this tattoo design is the one selected by those who are receiving their first tattoo. The name of a loved one or of the one getting the tattoo is frequently translated into Kanji. Single symbols such as life, breath, fire, and so on. are also popular.
Stars - If one tattoo design will get a hold of the distinction of being the one people request for the most, it would be stars. This might be because of the design’s simplicity and the number of meanings it can carry. Of all, it seems that nautical stars are greatly favored. However, in the past few years, styles that are composed of a cluster of stars in different sizes have also become trendy – mainly with the women.
Roses and Hearts – Flowers are a popular tattoo design, but of all the flowers requested, the rose stands out probably the most. Just like the rose, hearts are extremely trendy too. From time to time the two are even used together in the same design.
Barbwire - Of all band tattoos (wrist, arm, leg, etc.), barbwire is the most trendy. They are often requested on the wrists, the arms, the legs or the ankle. Sometimes barbwires are also used to accent or border more elaborate tattoo concepts.
Butterfly – Especially trendy amid ladies, the butterfly is seen as a symbol of femininity. Usually placed on the lower back, the nape, or somewhere obscure. Ladies are also known to give preferentiality to flowers and fairies, although these last two are also a staple amid men.
Knotwork and Crosses - Knotworks are popular as a result of their intricate styles. Crosses are also popular and this category also comprises of Celtic crosses that may or may not have certain Celtic knot work on them.
Designs that are receiving honorable mentions include the ever popular name tattoos - be they intentional or the result of a drunken night on the town. Other common tattoo types include fish, dolphins, crowns, eagles, wings, dragons, pin-up girls, and suns. Angels and other religious and cultural symbols including the Om and the Ankh are also popular tattoo types.
Although I am a huge tattoo fan I always advise against people running into tattoo parlor and demanding tattoo me now, as this can lead to problems later when you regret the design and it is too late. So make sure you get it right!
