Live Singing Performance
Knowing the proper behavior on stage is critical to giving your best live performance. With that in mind, try to follow these tips:
Rehearsals
Make sure you've rehearsed with the band. A minimum of one dress rehearsal should be carried out prior to taking the stage. For the last rehearsal and dress rehearsal you should sing the music from memory.
Choosing your outfit
The outfit you choose to wear for the live performance can make or break the show. Get used to your outfit before you step on stage. It is important to ensure that you are able to move comfortably in your outfit.
Walking out onto the stage
Practice walking to the place you'll stand on the stage. While one would think walking across a stage would be easy, it's actually fairly difficult. The idea is to stop in place, but land in the right posture as well. Do your best to keep your posture as you walk to your chosen position.
Keep the speaker turned away from you
Singing with a band can be really cool, but the first time can be a bit confusing. If the speakers are pointed away from you, which they probably will be, you may have trouble hearing yourself. Ask if they can turn the speaker toward you. The problem is that bands play loudly, and a speaker can be distracting if you're not used to it. You need to learn to pick out the instrument that plays the melody line.
Smile
Make sure you smile as you go on stage. You appear far more confident if you look straight at your audience as you walk across the stage. Your smile needs to look genuine even if you're nervous and don't want to be on the stage.
Acknowledge your audience
When you are singing, you might not know when it's time to pay attention to the audience. Singers won't always sing in a small place. To get a feel for whether to include the audience as part of your song, watch and learn from the seasoned pros.
Distractions will occur
A concert can yield many different distractions for a performer. People can do many things in an audience, such as coughing or even leaving early. People in the audience often don't consider how this distracts the performer. When you practice at home you might want to intentionally stage some distractions. The best way to ignore distractions is to have friends distract you and see how lo you can ignore it.
Keep an eye on your hands
The best place for your hands during a performance would be at your sides. The safest place is at your sides, even if that's not the most interesting place. If you choose to gesture, make it a complete gesture and make sure your elbows move out away from your body. If you want, you can fold your hands in front of you.
Okay so now you know some live performance basics. In order to wow your audience you'll need to work hard to perfect your singing skills. You can either take private singing lessons or use a professional home-study singing course like Sing With Freedom. Also if you're struggling to promote you and your band, you'll definitely want to check out Social Bandmaker.
