Author: Clyde Lee Dennis

Down, very talented Rock group have released their latest CD titled II and Wow! It’s really a good one.

Unfortunately, it’s not everyday that I get a CD for review that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with II. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Classical Guitar Reviews

Author: Ricky Sharples

Once you get beyond the beginner stage in classical guitar, you are immediately looking at serious musical instrument quality. If you do not have a huge guitar-buying budget, you will need to be quite choosy and able to bear in mind the qualities you feel that your present guitar lacks. Your next classical guitar is, to a large degree, your musical voice, so do not let a tight budget make you buy a second grade instrument.

Let us start with Alvarez guitars, makers of a wide range of guitars. Alvarez guitars have been recognized as one of the leading acoustic guitar brands in the world. Alvarez guitars have been made in America since 1965 and are handmade in limited quantities making use of traditional construction techniques and naturally seasoned wood. Because the Alvarez craftsmen do not use computers to build their guitars, each guitar has its own unique feel and character.

Alvarez Regent Series RC10 Classical Guitar is towards the more affordable end of the Alvarez guitar range. but the Alvarez family craftsmanship still makes itself felt. A hand picked spruce top projects a warm tone topped off by mahogany sides and back. Rosewood fretboard and bridge and a real mosaic rosette make for a sumptuous look set off by gold machine heads. The novice guitar player will be pleased with the low action and optimal string spacing.

Alvarez Masterworks Series MC90 Classical Guitar is maybe the finest classical guitar in its price range. Its Indian rosewood back and sides, plus Western cedar top with precision scalloped bracing are features usually found only on much more pricey guitars. This instrument features a really elaborate mosaic rosette, rosewood body binding and headcap. The gold machine heads with tortoise buttons make it a guitar you will be proud to play and be seen playing for many years to come.

And now for the Jose Ramirez 4E Classical Guitar. The Ramirez name has been synonymous with fine guitars since 1882, and the 4E Classical Guitar is the top of the line. It is all made completely by hand and contains much of the look and feel of more expensive instruments. With hand-inlaid purfling, the marquetry and detailing are the most refined of all the Ramirez student guitars. Humidicase is included. The Jose Ramirez 4E Classical Guitar features a Cedar soundboard, solid rosewood back and sides, Spanish cedar neck strengthened by ebony topped off by an ebony fretboard and Fustero machine heads.

Finally, the Manuel Contreras II C-7 Classical Guitar. Manuel Contreras was born in 1928 and died 1994. He started out as a cabinet maker moved onto making guitars in Jose Ramirez’ guitar shop in Madrid in 1959. He started his own luthier business in 1962. Manuel’s son Pablo was born in 1957 and presently makes guitars himself aided by a smallish staff. Although the Contreras II C-7 guitar is at the low end of the Contreras line, you still get the benefits of the Contreras tradition of making top quality classical guitars. This guitar features a light, player-friendly action and a  satisfying clarity and evenness of tone. The Manuel Contreras II C-7 Classical Guitar features a Solid cedar top with Indian rosewood back and sides plus Honduras cedar neck and ebony fingerboard.

Beatles Guitar Tabs - The Basics of Learning Them

I grew up with The Beatles on so it goes without saying that learning easy guitar tabs using the vast array of their songbook would probably be a great place to start with your guitar learning.

When I first began my trek in that arena, it was easy to begin with something I was aware of and when I played the song for someone, they would smile as they knew it too. Does that make sense? Starting with the familiar will help you to accomplish it much faster than trying a song that you have no connection to.

Think about it. Don’t you always have some song when you are with your boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse? It brings back memories, right? A song, be it The Beatles or whatever, will inspire you to excel because of the familiarity aspect of the song.

With all of that being said, there seems to be some Beatles songs that are a bit easier to master that others. We all have our favorites, but there are some that appear on many a list from the easy of learning and the sheer familiarity of the song.

Many of the songs seem to be from the early days of The Beatles, more often than not, it is for the ability to play and learn the guitar chords that accompany the music.

“Hey Jude", is one I started with, then I progressed to "Michele", A Hard Day's Night” and "Twist and Shout.”

What makes these easy form a learning standpoint? Well, I can only speak from my experience, but, as I mentioned before, I had a connection to them and it seems that I could move through the chords with a fair amount of proficiency. It is in that aspect of learning beginning guitar tabs, that it can be a more rewarding experience. The quicker you can move through chords can give you a tremendous amount of confidence to begin to tackle tougher songs.

Like anything, it is all about the experience and the amount of joy it brings you. If you never get a sense of accomplishment out of playing the guitar, I can guarantee you that your guitar experience will be short lived.

Deities of Guitar

No wonder the influence of 20th century guitar gods has sank in into the mindset of the generation of rock and roll way beyond the boundaries of music. Lots of bands and solo artists today have been inspired to be at par with their very own guitar hero with all their might. Most certainly amongst them, here are six guitar gods that challenge the determination of both professional and amateur guitarists to play good music for others to enjoy.

Sixth: Eddie Van Halen
Eddie Van Halen is the lead guitarist of the rock band named after him known as Van Halen. This guitar hero popularized the used of tapping in playing guitar. This is technique is done by literally tapping both left and right hands on the guitar neck. Although this technique has been done by blues guitarists before him, Van Halen was the one who made the technique iconic. During his guitar solos, Eddie Van Halen usually played with his back to the audience to hide his tapping technique.

Fifth: Dimebag Darrell
The world of heavy metal has just lost a guitar hero on December 8, 2004 when Pantera and Damageplan’s lead guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot dead by a schizophrenic gunman while on stage with Damageplan. Dimebag is best known with his rapport with fans and was tagged as “one of the most influential stylists in modern metal.” Guitar magazines never fail to include Dimebag whenever they list top 10 metal guitarists. Besides being well-known in the metal scene, Dimebag used to perform with a country music band Rebel Meets Rebel.

Fourth: Kirk Hammett
Metallica’s lead guitarist and songwriter, Kirk Hammett is on our fourth spot but for Rolling Stones magazine, he is ranked 11th in their list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” Hammett had private lessons with another guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and in 2002, became the first to receive the Guitar World magazine’s Hall of Fame award.

Third: The Great Kat
Katherine Thomas, more popularly known as The Great Kat is a Julliard-schooled guitarist and violinist famous for her thrash metal renditions of well-known classical pieces – from Beethoven to Mozart. She was listed in Guitar One magazine as one of the “Ten Fastest Shredder of All Time.”

Second: John Petrucci
John Petrucci is the founding member, co-producer and lyricist of the progressive metal band Dream Theater. He performs with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in the G3 Tour. Noted as one of the world’s finest guitar players, Petrucci is well-known for his fast alternate picking that requires a lot of synchronization with both left and right hands.

First: Jimi Hendrix
Arguably the best and the most influential guitar player in the whole of rock music is Jimi Hendrix. His appearance in the iconic Woodstock Festival in 1969 can be considered as the greatest gig in the history of rock Hendrix style in creating music with electric distortions and effect was unique in his time that it became the turning point of newly evolved rock genres. His tragic death became rather controversial and is placed side by side with three other 60s rock icons: Janet Joplin and Jim Morrison.

These deities of guitar may have not been the virtuoso that they are overnight. But surely a guitar hero has had his humble beginnings. Get your first steps Free Guitar Lesson Guide at http://freeguitarguide.googlepages.com/
They might lead you to guitar stardom!
