I can describe the latest release from Rock sensation Donell Jones for you with just one word… Outstanding!

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Country Legend Porter Wagner Dies from Lung Cancer

By Pamela Mortimer

Most knew Porter Wagner for the outrageous rhinestone suits and the pompadour hairdo he sported throughout the duration of a career that lasted more 50 years. Country fans also knew Wagner as a fixture at the Grand Ole Opry, as well as for a string of hit songs in the 1960s, and as the man who helped to start Dolly Partons illustrious career.

Like many country legends of yore, Wagner had faded into the background over the years but had recently celebrated a comeback winning over scores of new fans. In May, Wagner signed with ANTI-records, an eclectic Los Angeles label best known for alternative rock performers like Nick Cave, Tom Waits, and Neko Case. Wagoner’s first album in many years, “Wagonmaster”, was released in June and netted him some of the best reviews of his career. During this past summer, Wagner served as the opening act for the rock duo White Stripes at a sold-out show at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

“The young people I met backstage, some of them were 20 years old. They wanted to get my autograph and tell me they really liked me,” Porter said with tears in his eyes the day after the New York show. “If only they knew how that made me feel - like a new breath of fresh air.”

Wagoner was born in West Plains, Mo., and became known as “The Thin Man From West Plains” because of his lanky frame. He recalled that he spent hours as a child pretending to be an Opry performer, using a tree stump as a stage.

Wagner started out on radio, then became a regular on “Ozark Jubilee,” one of the first televised nationwide country music shows. Wagners career in the music business really took off when he signed with RCA Records in 1955, He subsequently joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1957, “the greatest place in the world to have a career in country music,” he said in a 1997 interview. In addition to his appearances at the Opry, Wagner had his own syndicated TV show, “The Porter Wagoner Show,” for 21 years, beginning in 1960. This show was one of the first syndicated shows to be based in Nashville and set the standards for others to follow.

“Some shows are mechanical, but ours was not polished and slick," he said in 1982.

In 1967, Wagner partnered with an up and coming 21 year old singer named Dolly Parton. Parton took Wagners advice and switched from writing story telling songs to love songs such as “I Will Always Love You”, a song which was to become a pop standard. The pair worked together until 1974 when they decided to go their separate ways.

Among Wagners hits, many of which he wrote or co-wrote, were "Carroll County Accident", “Misery Loves Company", “Company’s Comin’”, “A Satisfied Mind”, “Skid Row Joe", and “Green Green Grass of Home.” In 2002, he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Country Western Music is for Everybody to Like

Author: Paul Zayer

I would without difficulty believe that anyone loves music to a certain point. Each of us has their views. We begin forming likes and dislikes when we are very young. A lot of our opinions are formed because of our own experiences and others we form based on what we hear from the others around us. Kids readily pick up what the adults around them are saying. This is the reason why a lot of family members belong to the same political party and practice the same religion; it is what they grew up with. A great deal of what we appreciate comes from what we saw as children. Later we discover that we modify our opinion on something which we have experienced for ourselves because the opinion was based on what we were educated rather than from our own experience.

In the family I was raised in, my father wanted to have things quiet. He worked very hard at his carreer running a ranch so when he relaxed for the evening he did not like a great deal of noise or activity going on around him. We could have the t.v. set on low or he would put on albums of classical music. It was the only music he would listen to. If we had the radio on and country western music or rock and roll would play, he would tell us to turn it off. He did not understand rock and roll and he thought countrywesternmusic was a sport.

I was exposed to rock and roll through my friends, radio and dances and like it. I did not listen to country western music at all. I held my father’s view of it. Then I began dating a young man in highschool that listened to countrywesternmusic all the time. He liked the beat of the music and the stories that most of the lyrics was about.

I truly liked that guy so when we began dating I put up with the music and tuned it out. We then went to a big outdoor concert where performed a lot of the most popular country western groups. From that point on I was addicted. I found that I also appreciated the stories the songs was about and the music was fun to dance to. At the outdoor concert event I got together with a lot of my boyfriend’s friends. They showed me how to line dance to some of the music. After highschool I moved to another city and so I lost touch with my boyfriend. Eventually I married my current husband and we are raising our family. I still listen to all kinds of music, but every time I hear country western music I look back to that outdoor show and how I started to like it. I make an effort to let my children experience a lot of different things when they grow up and try not to influence their opinions.

Country Music Is No Mere Genre

Author: Ben Franklin

Country Music originated in early 20th century among the whites in Rural areas of West and South. The roots of this music lie in Ballads, English songs and Folk Songs. The term Country Music replaces what is popularly called Hill Billy Music.

Country Music has been associated with cowboy hats and boots. The fact is that apparel has got nothing to do with it. One of the veterans, Travis Tritt does not wear a hat. Country Music is a genre that means different things to different people. If you look over at their interpretations, you will find for some it is Johnny Cash’s weather beaten crooning or Shania Twain's prancing-pony burlesque. Right since the beginning of the 21st century, Music Industry is divided and quite fractured as to what really the Country Music is. Most people say that, when they hear it, they know its country or its not.

The relationship is one if hate and love, either fans love it and hate other genres intensely. If you have met some hardcore country fans, you will notice, they will always find a way to hear it, no matter what state country radio currently finds itself in. Even if an artist’s presence on country radio represents a certain kind of success or acceptance, there’s no doubt that “real” country is always happening in the margins, in clubs and coffeehouses, and on smaller labels or self-produced records.

Recently very good different country records have been released by women artists like, the Dixie Chicks’ “Home,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, knocking Eminem down a bit. The other two, Kelly Willis’ “Easy” and Allison Moorer’s “Miss Fortune,” are also hailed as good country music. These two artists are not quite famous but they have a solid fan following. American Country Music is being popularized by various artists like Rhonda Vincent, Mandy Barnett, Brad Paisley, Hank Williams III and Danni Leigh.

Country Music has an association also, the Country Music Association (CMA), founded in 1958 in Nashville, Tennessee. It originally consisted of only 233 members. This was the first trade organization formed to promote a music genre. The objectives of the organization are to guide and enhance the development of Country Music throughout the world. They wish to show that it is a viable medium to advertisers, consumers and media. It provides a unity of purpose for the Country Music industry.

The association presents annual wards also. Annual awards are given in the following twelve categories: Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Horizon Award, Vocal Group, Vocal Duo, Single, Album, Song, Music Event, Music Video, and Musician.

Country Music is getting lot more world wide attention after the Country Music Annual Awards was shifted to New York.

An academy for this genre, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) was founded in 1964 in Los Angeles, California. It was originally called the Country & Western Music Academy; and was formed by people who wanted to share their love of Country music.

Country Music had a set following earlier but now it is gaining number of fans day by day. Loud tuned ,good lyrics, special effects mark the various concerts held in America by various country artists.

Elements of Classical Music

Author: Zack Fair

For the most part it can be distinguished by the type of instruments in the musical piece. Most modern forms of music only have a couple of instrumentations used in its creation, whereas classical music uses several types of instrumentation. Musicians of this type of music are extremely skilled in their chosen instrument because of the detailed compositions.

The instruments used in classical music generally come from five or so different groups of instruments, including string instruments, woodwinds, brass instruments and percussion instruments. The use of these types of instruments generally makes up a symphonic orchestra. When the human voice is added to this ensemble of instrument, and opera is formed.

The forms of classical music are numerous as and tend to be very well defined. The concerto is a musical work in which one solo instrument is accompanied by an orchestra. This form of music was established in the Baroque period and has continued to be a strong musical force today. The symphony is a musical composition and is usually for an orchestra. The opera is an art form in which singer and musicians work together to produce a work that combines text and musical. Another form is known as dance music and its specific use is to facilitate or accompany dancing. This form can either be a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. The suite form of music is an ordered set of instrumental or orchestral pieces of music that are performed in a concert setting rather than as accompaniments. An etude is a short musical composition designed to provide practice in a particular technical skill in the performance of a solo instrument. A symphonic poem, also known as a tone poem, is a piece of orchestral music in one movement in which some extra-musical program provides a narrative or illustrative event.

Classical music requires a strong knowledge of music and as well as skill in playing an instrument. Knowledge of music must include the familiarity of development, modulation, variation, musical phrases that are of differing lengths, counterpoint, polyphony as well as sophisticated harmony. The skill involved in playing an instrument requires the musician to be adept at sight reading, have the ability to coordinate with other players in the ensemble as well as experience in playing a composer's music.

The popularity of classical music has been debated for years. It has been said that it is strictly for upper-class citizens, and at the same time others have said that it is popular with the working class. All in all, the popularity depends on what one considers to be classical music. Certain staples of classical music are often used commercially. Movies and television often use standard clichéd pieces of classical music to convey certain emotions to their audiences. In order for the commercial use of classical music to be effective, it has to rely on the fact that anyone who listens to the music will recognize it and be emotionally drawn to it.

Classical music has many forms that make up the genre, even though no specific form is implied in its description. The knowledge and skill of classical musicians makes these musicians sought after for orchestras or symphonies. The commercial use of certain classical pieces helps to keep the classical music alive and available to all classes of people.
